Enrichment Week Excavation

Enrichment Week Excavation

To celebrate the Festival of Archaeology we spent the last week of summer term supporting Uckfield College teachers and pupils to excavate a test pit in their Eco Garden.

Students signed up to spend the day unearthing the mysteries under their feet. Our friendly team of professional archaeologists guided them on their search for evidence every step of the way.

Students learnt how to excavate, metal detect, identify ancient artefacts, and experience what it’s really like to be an archaeologist. Afterwards they pieced clues together and shared their findings with the rest of their community.
Some great finds were recovered from the topsoil and subsoil. Including an Elizabeth II Half Penny minted the same year the school was founded. Many thanks to East Sussex County Council for supporting the project. A full report has been submitted to County Archaeologist, Neil Griffin, and is available upon request.

"Thank you SO much for today. What an experience for the students! You were brilliant- so knowledgeable and you pitched everything exactly right."
