FAQs

What is an Archaeodiscovery Finds Box?

A Finds Box is an archaeology activity box for children aged 6-12 years old. Each box relates to an archaeological theme or technique. Because we all learn better through playing and doing, each box contains craft activities, games and all the materials necessary to carry out tasks.

Our activities have been designed to get children thinking like an archaeologist and relating to peoples of the past. The boxes have been developed by qualified teachers and support the national curriculum with influence from Forest School and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics) Learning.

What do your Finds Boxes contain?

Each box contains:

- An archaeologist's apprentice workbook with information, stories, activities, and games.

- All the necessary materials for two craft activities.

- Some extras to inspire ideas and inquisitiveness.

Do I need to purchase anything extra to complete the box?

The boxes have been developed with the busy parent in mind. We aim to include everything you need to complete the box.

We do sometimes include extra activities and ideas in our boxes, for example, recipes that may require you to purchase ingredients, but these are extras and may not be included every month.

How and when are your products sent?

We aim to post all orders within 3-5 working days. You will receive emails informing you of the different steps in the process.

Postage is FREE for all UK orders and sent via by second class, tracked, Royal Mail. Boxes are conveniently sized to fit through your letterbox, so there is no need to wait in or liaise with your local mail delivery centre.

If you are anticipating a delivery and it hasn’t shown up as expected, don’t panic! Please let us know by emailing us at archaeodiscovery@outlook.com and we will investigate.

How can I be sure the science is rigorous and the activities suitable for my child?

All our products are designed by specialists in archaeology and developed by qualified educators. Odile has a degree in Archaeology as well an MA in Creative Writing, and Flick is a graduate in Archaeology, has a PGCE in History with an MSc in Human Osteology.

Both have over twenty years of experience in the field and several years’ experience in outreach as Leaders at Brighton Young Archaeologists Club.

Finds boxes are designed so that children can explore them independently, or they can be an experience enjoyed together at home. Some activities may require adult supervision or extra precaution against mess - it will be clearly signalled when this is the case. The boxes are not recommended for children under six years of age.

I have several children, how many boxes should I order?

A single box includes enough materials for ONE child to undertake each activity. We recommend that you order 2 boxes for 2 children.

Are your products and services more for girls or boys?

Archaeodiscovery’s boxes and activities are for all genders. This is a stereotype-free zone because we believe in promoting equality for all children and adults.

Who are your tours aimed at?

We aim to be as inclusive as possible and our guided walks are designed for a broad audience.

Due to terrain and distance, with some walks we may recommend suitability for those aged 16 or above. We will clearly state when this is the case.

If any additional support would be valued then please contact us beforehand so that we can make suitable arrangements. Read our Terms & Conditions for more information.

Can I bring my dog on a tour?

Well behaved dogs are welcome, as long as they are kept on lead and you come prepared to take full responsibility for them.

Who are your workshops and clubs aimed at?

Whilst the focus of our school workshops are on the KS2 curriculum, they can all be adapted to meet the needs of KS1 pupils and KS3 pupils.

Our holiday clubs are designed for 7-12 year olds.
